Isla Mujeres is Spanish for Island of the Women, so named because
of the presence of female stone idols found in temples on the island
when Conqueror Francisco Hernández de Cordoba arrived in 1517.

Isla Mujeres is located off the eastem shore of the Yucatán Peninsula, across the bay of Cancún and is only 5 miles long and 1/2 a mile wide.

Isla Mujeres is just 20 minutes by ferry from Puerto Juarez. This Caribbean island moves at an idyllic pace compared with Cancun,
which you will feel crossing the bay. Enjoy the shops and exotic restaurants as you explore this most picturesque island.

People who travel to Isla Mujeres tend to live out an experience involving some water based adventure or just relaxing completely
on the Island's silky white sand beaches next to the deep turquoise
and blue waters.

Day-trippers from Cancun arrive on ferries during the day, and make the island a hive of commercial activity as they wander around the town or they spend their time at the beaches. But when the evening ferries leave, the island calms down again returning to its natural serene and tranquil state.
